Boogie in the Wild at Lekoa August 2006 |
Trip ReportEverybody arrived around 5pm at Lekoa lodge, unpacked and drenched in the relaxation. Cristel walked around the lodge to meet all the new members, near future members and the usual Bush Bandits family. The accommodation was immaculate 4 star accommodation with under floor heating, and with the cold weekend we had this was a nice to have.
Dinner was served at 7pm it was divine, we all socialized at the bar and headed off to bed for an early evening.
Saturday morning we were able to sleep in a bit later than usual, breakfast was only served at 8am and we left riding at 9am. Uthuli Racing Developments joined us in the early morning for the day! The red route was a lot of fun, lots of uphill, downhill and windy windy’s. It was a nice ride with guys swimming in the stream (we won’t mention names), guys rolling their bikes, thanks for the excitement Leigh! Getting stuck in the mud and just having a good time overall. We headed back to the lodge where we had an hour to play on the track and jumps before we had lunch. Some of the guys rushed off to see what was happening with the rugby and the others had a nice time riding. We had lunch, burgers and chips and left for our next ride. We did the blue route, long way on the dirt road then some windy windy’s again, some of us had to turn around to go and fix tyres, but made it back in time with the rest. Pieter got quite impressed with the way Janie was riding; said she is becoming a lunatic. But as long as you enjoyed yourself.
The guys then did the red route again, in a more racing manner, which they all enjoyed very much. Most of the ladies left to have a nice shower, read a book or just relaxed and had a drink.
Everybody got together in the restaurant area for a drink before dinner, dinner was a lovely farm style cooked meal, and it was delicious. The Bomb Squad DVD was playing on the big screen and most were nailed to the screen while they were eating. After dinner we watched the happenings of the day on the big screen, lots of laughter and lots of ooooo and aaaaaaa at narrow escapes. After the video we had our prize giving, with a difference this time, we just did a lucky draw. Ewert had everybody enjoy “straf dops” for all the silly, stupid and funny things they managed to entertain us with on the ride. Pieter almost had a visit from Ewert in bed, he wanted to give him a “straf dop” for going to bed early, but don’t worry Pieter we’ll get you in Botswana!!
After the prize giving it was not even 2 minutes and the pub was empty, everybody was soooo tired. We stayed and Jaan showed us some funny video clips on the big screen, there was laughter for another hour or so, but then we decided that it was time for bed.
Sunday morning breakfast was at 8am again and we did the blue and red route again before packing up and leaving. Some of the guys left early because they had to be out of their chalets by 10am (sorry again about that). The ride was exciting, some of the guys had their bikes and kit washed by the ladies and gents of Lekoa staff and the rest of us loaded, showered and got ready to hit the road.
A big sorry for Barend, Rika and the boys, we had a lunch date with them at the lodge, but thought everybody had left so we took on the road home as well, when Barend phoned me an hour later and asked if they are allowed to eat now, we felt terribly bad, he explained to Ewert and myself that this was serious “straf dop” material and that we would get it from him in Botswana! Looking forward!
The weekend at Lekoa turned out to be very nice, we left with some more people added to the Bush Bandits family.
We want to thank everybody at Lekoa lodge for a wonderful weekend, especially Elize, Mariette and Hansman, without you guys it would not have been such a great weekend.
The Lekoa weekend has passed without any injuries (well minor ones by the lunatics), flat tyres or any repair work! |
